Extremadura - La Serena

Extremadura - La Serena
… or how we were looking in vain for European rollers and great bustards!
May 22-26 2010

If also springtime blossom was nearly over, not so …

… the springtime feelings:

Wild artichoke:

A water snake on its way to …

… take a sunbath:

"Sunbath? I had enough sun today!" this jackdaw is complaining:

A mistle thrush looking far away for food on the floor:

That we just here in this bleak cliff scenery met a little ringed plover astonished us very much. Just to nice how he was sitting in his nets:

A barn swallow mother provides its impatient children:

And a sedge warbler warbles skillful its nice song:

Everywhere many woodchat shrikes were to be seen, if also …

… a little far away:

Also the southern gray shrike suffers from the heat, but …

… is very much awake seeing prey:

And sometimes also a sunny day in the Extremadura finds its end and all animals can recover in the cool night air from the days heat:

Despite we didn't see any great bustards it was a most wonderful trip! Memories of this wonderful uninhabited landscapes are permanent and maybe we try our luck again there at another time of the year!

Best regards
